This one-day symposium taking place at UCC (Council Room) on 18 May 2010 is organized by Alliance Française de Cork and UCC’s School of History. The symposium follows on the recent pan-European event organized by the city of Centre Robert Schuman, Scy-Chazelles, France, entitled “Europe celebrates its 60-year epic”. This exciting project involved young people from all 27 member states who travelled to Paris and Scy-Chazelles to celebrate the 60th Anniversary of the Schuman Declaration.
The Irish student delegation selected by Alliance Française de Cork comprised ten postgraduates from UCC’s School of History, notably from its MA in International Relations.
The symposium on Tuesday 18 of May at UCC will focus on the experiences and feedback of this Irish delegation enabling them to actively engage in, and take ownership of, the debate about the future of Europe.
Lord Mayor of Cork Cllr Dara MURPHY and Nora CALLANAN, President of Alliance Française de Cork will open the event. Dick ROCHE (Minister of State for European Affairs), Dr Anne-Marie AUTISSIER (University Paris VIII) a specialist on European culture, Tony BROWN (Institute of International and European Affairs), and Dr Mervyn O’DRISCOLL (School of History, UCC) as well as other guests will deliver papers.
This event is free of charge and will mainly take place in the Council Room, University College of Cork from 9.00 am to 18.00 pm.
